Overview
Vaachathi, a small village tucked in the foothill of Sitheri Hills in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu. Prior to 1992, no one would have heard such a tiny village existed on this earth. Now it has become well known around the world. To get such fame, the people of Vaachathi paid a heavy price. Without any rhyme or reason the tribal People were dragged out by the forest officials and indescribable atrocities were unleashed on them. Young girls were sexually molested. Unheard of atrocities were heaped on them. The Jayalalitha government watched the whole episode silently. The successive rulers of DMK too didn’t care and on their part shielded the culprits just like the previous government. After a continuous struggle launched by the CPI(M) for nearly two decades, now brought forth justice and relief to these hapless people. This booklet records this long struggle for justice and human rights with all its angst.
