This book examines how far the promises as articulated by the Congress Party as a part of its pre-independence rhetoric on agrarian issues were fulfilled during its period of office (1952-1967). Based on archival sources, the author K. Madhusudharsanan has given a comprehensive account of the measures adopted by the Congress government in Madras in the course of the first three Five Year Plans­-building of dams and reservoirs, introduction of upgraded technology in agricultural practices, use of fertilizer, pesticide, high yielding varieties of agricultural crops and breeds of cattle.
